Audiobooks are a lifesaver for those who want to read and gain experience but do not have much time. I have been listening to audiobooks regularly for over six years, and it is one of the most productive things I do. Here are my top audiobook hacks to save money, read more, and gain knowledge quickly.
Turn Up the Speed
The three audiobook apps I use regularly allow you to increase the speed of the reader. I try to listen to books at about two times the speed. However, it all depends on the narrator and your listening preference. For example, I can listen to someone from the south on two times the speed, but I can only listen to British readers on about 1.25x max.
If I can listen to a book at twice the speed, that means I can essentially read a six-hour book in only three hours. Even just listening to a book at 1.25x the speed can shave off 72 minutes of a six-hour book. This will allow you to read more books and acquire more knowledge in less time.
Of course, the main objective for listening to audiobooks is to gain knowledge. Therefore, only have the speed turned up to a comfortable understanding point.
Fill Time Pockets with Listening
There is rarely ever a chunk of time to devote to just listening to audiobooks. This is why you need to regularly practice listening to a book in five to 10-minute pockets. Listen while are driving to the store, when you’re folding a load of laundry, or when you are getting ready for the day. It is so easy to let little pockets of time get wasted because they seem too insignificant to do anything with.
Being productive in little pockets of time adds up quickly. While it is not always possible to find a large chunk of time to devote to reading, listening to books five minutes here or ten minutes, there will allow you to finish a book every week or every other week.
Audiobook Hacks So You Can Listen for Free
Even with an audible membership, audiobooks are expensive. I love to borrow audiobooks from the library through the OverDrive and Hoopla app.
I will also sign up for free trials of audible, whenever they allow it on my account. For example, if I haven’t used a free promotion and six months, sometimes they will allow me to redeem one month/one credit for free.
Also, every time I have gone to cancel my audible account, they have offered a free credit to stay. I will then just redeem that credit, and then eat either cancel or put my account on hold.

Listen to More Than One Book at A Time
Some experts don’t recommend reading more than one book at a time. They claim it will mess with how much info you retain. However, I am the type of person that is usually reading five to seven books at once.
This allows me to stay motivated with my reading, even when I don’t feel like reading a specific topic. The secret is to read books in different genres and topics. This will allow you to retain more info, even if you are switching between different books. Usually, I will read or listen to one fiction book, one mom advice book, one devotional, one success book, and one book on writing.
Audiobooks allow me to read more than 20 to 30 books a year on a busy schedule. Audiobooks also help me stay motivated when it comes to sticking with a cleaning schedule.
